Interviewer: Can you tell me about the challenges that you have faced trying to get care for your child who has been diagnosed with autism?

Initially, we were told to get a speech therapist.

I tried to search around, but could not get any, except the one in the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. This was not an option for me because I had a baby and I could not bring a baby with me to the appointments.

I searched for 4 months for a private speech therapist, but it ended up that they were too expensive. So, I only have the option at school, which is part-time.

After waiting almost a year, I was able to get my child in to see an Applied Behavioral Analysis therapist.

And in order for me to take my child twice a week to Applied Behavioral Analysis Therapy, I had to quit my job.

So, I have not worked for 5 years.
